And it’s finished! Sort off, haha. Had a lot of bugs that took away alot of time. I only had a week, but am pretty satisfied what I did in that timeframe. I’ts pretty simple and not great by any means, but it feels to have finished something for once.
[arrow keys] to move [spacebar] to pickup and throw [holding spacebar] has an effect on the double and flower skulls, try it!
Instructions: Simply get as many points as you get by throwing skulls at baddies. The more points you score with a skull, the better skull type you will gain. You die when all the skulls are destroyed by the enemies.
Regular skull: doesn’t do anything, gains a purple skull upon hit. Purple skull: bounces off enemies, use this to get high combos and obtain high level skulls. Flower skull: Hold spacebar when throwing, release to plant. Acts as a landmine. Double skulls: Spawns 2 bouncing skulls upon spacebar release. Electric skull: Chains overlapping enemies with lightning upon hit.
I might add a better html page later (if allowed), I lost my password for my ftp login right now haha.
Edit: you could also get the files here, just start the html. I could not get dropbox to host the html file unfortunately. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/4wkjb0mcan63vz9/aCEszQXqrD ——————————————————- I only found out about the competition last week, so this is more of a gamejam for me. I’m not really looking into making the best game in the competition, but just to have some fun and experience.
I picked the following cover since I loved the main characters design.
Development Language: as3 Engine: Flashpunk for input, rendering & sound, rest is custom.
Gameplay It wasn’t very hard to come up with some first ideas since the art portraits a pretty recognizable game enviroment; - the main character is holding an object - the field behind the character contains multiple similiar objects - 3 angry entities in the background.
I wanted to make an arcade-ish game because the time doesn’t really allow for anything else. So I figured that the player would have to protect their field of skulls from the hostile enemies.
The enemies approach from the bottom and all the throwable items are placed at the top. I plan on creating multiple kinds of skulls , some that split into two lanes to be able to hit multiple enemies at once, etc. I’m still not really sure what causes different skulls to spawn, but it will probably be based on kills or points.
The goal is pretty standard, obtain as many points as possible/survive as long as you can. The game probably ends when you either run out of skulls somehow or if a certain amount of monsters cross the top section.
Art I’m not an artist, and the limited amount of time doesn’t help. So I decided to go for the good old pixelized look. There will only be 4 different characters and some skulls and enviroment props. That’s all I can manage :( I’m pretty pleased how it turned out so far, so all is good.
I’m looking forward to see other entries of this cover :)
Oh I thought I comment on here before, your game cute and awesome! I play a couple of weeks ago and I love the power skulls, I don’t know how the power up system works if its random, But great job! You just need some sound effects and I bet this can turn into a big seller if you put it on phones or later video game systems, its a great fun time concept!
