-Hypnotic School-
- Famicom/NES Style graphics, music and gameplay
Story involves the main character going to school and having a special video game day for the students to try never before played video games. Upon playing the game a image of a weird school girl appears while flashing colors are playing during the game hypnotizing. The character does not realize this until she goes to sleep and realizes her personal world has dramatically change.
Thank’s! I’m going to keep my original idea, but use this concept for the story to tie into with the game. I just need to make up some names for the characters and ill be posting it later this week.
WIP sprite work. First two rows are for standing idle w/ blinking Next two is running animations that will reuse the first row for a 3 frame running animation Next row is her attack frames (She uses magic base attacks) and the last row is the hit frames.
Cool music, it has that “horror” vibe some NES games like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street had. What kind of game is it gonna be? RPG? Action? Adventure?
Game information Updated (top of page) Sprite Update, (scroll up) Finished the main frames of the main character. Reusing a lot for running, want to have the feeling of working with limited memory. And boy if this was a real nes, I think i ran out of space already if I wasnt using a mapper with switch banking.
@SugarPillStdios Thank you very much! I think I got the same chess feeling for a couple of seconds, until I see the same pattern in the girls eye, and the double number symbols
@zurashu Thanks a bunch, this one caught my attention first out of all the other ones, except I did not know it was a hypnotic title, so the idea I have dosen’t fit, but I going to do it anyway and fit the hypnotic theme into the story and the gameplay to effect the player itself. As for the maid in japan, I have no idea what to do with that…
Just to let you know ive been working on the game, but have been busy with work and what not.
So far in programming: Main Character can walk 4 directions and switched to 2 directions with animation Graphics are scaled 2x during run time Resolution is 480x320
Music: 2 new tracks almost done: Famitracko City and Boss Battle
Graphics: Title Screen WIP Bedroom Background WIP Zombie School Girl Done Blob Creature Done
Will be working on enemy AI which is a big step for the game.
Title Screen! I try to keep it true to the cover. and yes, the eye will blink.
Working on Room engine: Before I get to the enemy AI, I realize I going to have to spend time drawing out a map for the real world and draw out the rooms first before I move on the anything. So now ill be drawing rooms. Any screen of the game im calling it rooms whether its the bedroom or outside in famitracko city, or in the school.
@dertom Thanks, I have the game working, but I want to finish the HUD and some other things before I release any screenshots. Which will hopefully be next week.
Room program is almost done, I got a system where all the rooms are drawn in one animation and the program show which room is needed and then check what to place in that room. Now I’m working on the bedroom programming which you’ll be spending a lot of time in.
I’m still working on the engine I hope to get it done by no later than July 21st or earlier, then I can start concentrating on building the game.
Right now I’m adding the room programming (walking through doors and a old school black screen transition to go to the next room) and removing any glitches.
Music has been playing nicely. No sound effects yet.
Graphics will take most of my time, thank god programming gets easier and easier. The code is also as optimized as I can make it so it only runs code when it needs it, instead of checking for things 100% percent of the time.
I have a long way to go, and while also working my day job, and keeping my sanity.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
@ra51 Only to learn a couple of things. But since MMF is picking up the slack with the android plugin I might decided to just ignore unity till next year and concentrate on a lot of MMF games.
Was tired working on the game so I decided to catch up on some drawing and started doodling the character to get an idea.
Top from the Left: Programmer from Dot Impact with a serious president raisins and silly take on the high school girl from the cover.
Bottom from the Left: The main character for the game and some common enemies with a cyber girl.
Art was made with non photo blue sketch inked and colored with color pencils. There was some metallic and super neon colors used, but they dont show up on the scanner (for example the bat is actually neon orange with gold wings).
gameplay video. Of course framerate is actually 50fps. Backgrounds are no way near done. This program handles rooms, and scrolling, and the changing of music.
@nuria Famitracker for sure! The game runs in 50fps but the software I have can only run 15fps. I dont know if I going to get the game sponsored. Maybe I should, I would like to talk to the guys who did the cover if he can speak English, or get my self someone to help me translate.
@Drexegar, I guess the creator is Japanese since the description for the game on Meteor’s site is in Japanese. If you need a hand translating something, let me know.
you might say “Why are you drawing instead or working on the game?” 2 things. I have a lot of work to do and some places I go at is not comfortable to work, So I draw instead to get better ideas for my game. Also my art has been suffering so I’m trying to get better at drawing even though I’m to stubborn to use reference. Here is another screenshot:
@gold_ninja hey man thanks for the help, I did use google translate on the stuff and I could’t not find the artist at all who did this cover. That’s what I really want to know.
@matt, from the description on Meteor’s famicase site I could see that the creators were dotimpact and Raisin President. So then I googled for those names. The first bunch of results where just Meteor’s site and then some Japanese sites reporting on it, then in the midst of them I saw one for twitter and after a bit of looking around on the sites that dotimpact writes for I found him talking about his contribution to the meteor site.
