Hello all. I caught wind of this competition through a little ol’ blog called Tiny Cartridge, so I decided that it wouldn’t be a bad idea to make a game in tribute to their few years of service, and what better famicase to choose other than the one that they collaborated upon: Meteor Night.
I have a few ideas floating around on possible gameplay, but I think I am going to try and make the game as if someone was taking photographs of a starry summer night. The player will have a set number of photographs to take, and their photos will be given a score depending on the number of meteors, centering, focus, etc. I plan to make it a laid-back game, with slow music, soft visuals, and calming sound effects. I want it to be something you would want to curl up on the couch playing. I plan on using Construct 2 as the main compiler and engine, as it is pretty simple to utilize, but I might use some Action Script 3 if I can get around to learning a bit in my spare time.
I can’t wait to see the other entrees, and watch this space, I guess. Heh.
If you do decide to go the actionscript route, might I recommend Flash Develop and Flash punk? There’s a great set of tutorials to help get you started on the flashpunk website. Flash punk home: http://flashpunk.net/ Flash develop home: http://flashdevelop.org/
So during this past week I found the inspiration to fiddle around with famitracker and gimp and construct 2. And somehow a game sort of fell into place (Would you fancy that?).
Story:
It is a crisp summer night. You sit atop a hill with a loved one, gazing upwards at the enveloping night sky. As it becomes darker and darker, you begin to see glimmers of light streak across your field of vision. This is the time of the Perseids. This is Meteor Night.
oh also special thanks to the people who made the programs that helped me create this game. Thanks to the guys at Scirra who made Construct 2 and those at the Scirra forums, thanks to jsr for the fantastic little program that is famitracker, and thanks to those who helped make GIMP and audacity.
And thanks for setting up this competition, it was great to actually get something done this summer =D
I really like this one. I think it could do with something else other than the three photos attempts. Perhaps a way to win extra photos? Good work, though.
