I wanted to pick a cart that looked very little like a game, and that’s the one that stood out to me.
My Plan (so far) I’m going to make it in Unity as I want to learn at least the basics of Unity. This will give me a good excuse to pick it up. I’m a designer by day, so I’ll have a couple evenings a week and bits of weekends to work on it. The idea at the moment is a 2D speed memory game. Potentially 2 player but that’s maybe getting carried away.
For now, I’m going to give it a few days to stew in the back of my head.
I think it is awesome that you are using this competition as a way to learn Unity. These Jam-type competitions really are a great environment to learn a new programming language/development environment/content creation pipeline/etc and I wish more people took advantage of it. (I was just talking with someone in the NYC IGDA looking to learn Java and suggested this competition. I don’t see him anywhere, so I don’t think he joined.)
Bad News: I thought the comp started on 17th July so I only started working on this properly yesterday. Good News: I’ve had a month to think about it and I know almost exactly what I want to make.
Here’s a screenshot of my progress from yesterday:
