If you already downloaded Lumiko, you should download the installer again, and reinstall the game.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

It's never too late to join an interesting game challenge! To start off, this is the cart I picked:

Story

There's no story of course! How can I build a story in such a short development time? I know it's not the best cart of the archive, but it's the only one that inspired me to work on something. When I first looked at it I had to turn my head. Jackpot! I want to reproduce this feeling, I want to put the brain in that awkward situation similar to when you try to read something upside down.

"Why?" you ask. "Because" I reply.

Development

I'm building the game using Game Maker: Studio. I'm not a programmer, and GML is the most comfortable programming language for me.
Now, my goal is to recreate that strange feeling I presented few lines before. How to do that?

I think I can obtain that feeling trough the game controls.

The first idea was to create a game that required you to use your laptop tilted of 90°. The idea was cool, but gameplay-wise it was unable to find something interesting enough.

I decided to go for something less particular but effective: a lot of 2D games are based on the change of gravity direction. The point is that the controls change depending on the gravity direction in order to make the experience more comfortable to the player and less confusing. I'm going in the opposite direction. I'm building a game in which you can change the gravity direction, but the controls remain the same: in this way the brain needs to process more information in order to provide good hand-eye coordination. Confusing? Good!

Hello all. I caught wind of this competition through a little ol' blog called Tiny Cartridge, so I decided that it wouldn't be a bad idea to make a game in tribute to their few years of service, and what better famicase to choose other than the one that they collaborated upon: Meteor Night.

I have a few ideas floating around on possible gameplay, but I think I am going to try and make the game as if someone was taking photographs of a starry summer night. The player will have a set number of photographs to take, and their photos will be given a score depending on the number of meteors, centering, focus, etc. I plan to make it a laid-back game, with slow music, soft visuals, and calming sound effects. I want it to be something you would want to curl up on the couch playing. I plan on using Construct 2 as the main compiler and engine, as it is pretty simple to utilize, but I might use some Action Script 3 if I can get around to learning a bit in my spare time.

I can't wait to see the other entrees, and watch this space, I guess. Although there is sadly no in-game sound or music, I recommend playing this in the background: Juno Reactor, Pistolero. In case, it's not obvious from playing, you must follow the signs and memorize the directions that they lead you. As time wears on, the space fills with balls of different size and colour that will get in the way of the shiny object so that the play space resembles a deep-space ball pit. Luckily, the player is armed with some bombs, useful for blowing stuff out of the way. In order to get that 'asteroidy' feel, balls of similar colour gravitate towards eachother, forming clumps, whilst balls of dissimilar colour repel eachother.

I actually started on this project about a week ago when I realised my other entry to this competition just wasn't fun. I saw this cartridge and thought: "Hey, this looks familiar!" Turns out it's made by Ashley Davis in collaboration with Tiny Cartridge, an artist and a blog respectively that I follow and really like!
After reading their the game description I just couldn't resist, now I have to make this game!

Their idea is "Designed to be played with friends or a date, Meteor Night shows a peaceful sky full of 8-bit stars. Sometimes a meteor will fly across the sky. Turn down the lights, bring a blanket and snacks, and enjoy Meteor Night together."
That's totally awesome and I want to do just that!

But that would be a bit too easy for this competition so I want to add a more game-y part.
My gameplay idea is that the sky is unfortunately completely starless, so the player has to collect all the stars, meteors and all that (sounds a bit like Mario...nah!) to recreate the sky!
So there are two modes, one where you have to collect stars and the other where you can watch the sky like the original idea.
Everytime you collect a star it will be added in the sky and you can show it to your friends and/or a date! Imagine, you complete the sky, watch it with your girlfriend/date/whatever and then you can say "Look, I made this sky, just for you!" I know, sounds a bit stupid but whatever :P

And I though "Maybe the players can customize the sky however they want...?" Dunno if I'll do that and I have yet to think HOW the player will collect stars so that's for the future :D

Stay tuned :)
